Enforcement of Strict Regulatory Frameworks
Regulations such as the European Union's REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) require that chemical substances be evaluated for their potential to cause harm to human health. This creates a need for reliable and efficient testing methodologies. In-vitro toxicology testing fulfills this need, as it offers a high-throughput, cost-effective, and human-relevant approach to assess the toxicity of these chemical substances. Moreover, it adheres to the overarching ethical movement towards reduction, refinement, and replacement (3Rs) of animal testing in scientific research – a stipulation of many regulations worldwide including Europe's Directive 2010/63/EU. As companies seek to maintain compliance with these rules, they lean further into in-vitro toxicology testing methods.
